So I have just enrolled myself in yet another course. My mam’s exact words “what course are you doing now??!!”😂 ha!
For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to be a teacher, preferably a primary school teacher but unfortunately I am Dyslexic and never studied Irish in secondary school.
In order to be a primary school teacher you have to get a C3 in your leaving Certificate or higher. (Leaving Certificate Grades have changed in the past few years and I have no idea what way it is done now but whatever the equivalent of a C3 is that’s what you need ha!)
When I studied Business (yes I have a level 8 degree in business!) we had to do 14 weeks work placement and I jumped at the change to help out in my local primary school.
Thankfully the school took me on (I did offer to cut the grass, wash windows.. whatever it took to get my foot in the door ha! They never made me do any of the either so that’s a plus!)
Anyways I spent 14 weeks there and then went back the following September for two extra weeks before my course started back again and I absolutely loved every minute of it.
I did go on to try and study Irish so that I could resit my Irish leaving Certificate exam in The hope of getting a C3 but at the time I was also doing my thesis and taking part in strictly club dancing fundraiser for my local GAA club so something had to give and unfortunately studying Irish did.
Move on a couple of years.. I am now studying beauty therapy and my tutor mentioned how after a few years in the industry that you could go back and do a course that will allow you to teach beauty therapy/ hair dressing/ massage or whatever qualification you have within the industry.
💡 Light bulb 💡
Of course you can’t go straight in and do this teaching course because you do need experience within the industry to be able to teach about it which makes sense so after speaking to my tutor, the academy CEO and fellow Beauty therapists, I knew that this course was on the cards for me.
I just needed experience which I was getting at home in my own beauty room and in the Hotel I was working in at the time so all I had to do was wait a few years!
Ehhh I don’t think so! While studying beauty therapy I also studied holistic massage. I then went on to study Fashion, Theatre and Media Makeup, Airbase Makeup, Advance waxing, Nail technology, (Gel & acrylic Nails & Nail Art) and barbering. Few!!
I had also looked into Reflexology but I didn’t go ahead with that in the end. It’s on my list though! 🙈
So now the time has finally come and I can put my name down for the teaching course! Eeek!
I am so excited!! I fell into the beauty industry head first and I absolutely love it! Now I have my name down to start teaching it.
Isn’t it funny the way things work out?
I am starting the course on the 15th of February in Gainfort Academy and it is running one Sunday a month until November.
